Makogai Island Fiji

Makogai is an island belonging to Fiji's Lomaiviti Island Group.

The Island is home to "Makogai Island Marine Research Station". The main focus of the station is applied mariculture research with particular emphasis on giant clam (Tridacna) and trochus clam.

From 1906 until 1969 the island was a quarantaine island which housed the Makogai Leprosy Hospital. A lot of the old structures remain today. Today, some of the houses are home to government Fisheries officers and their families.
